After a person is diagnosed with sciatica or sciatic nerve pain caused by another health issue, like a herniated disc, a chiropractor or doctor of chiropractic will often use spinal adjustments to treat back pain and other common health issues within the scope of chiropractic care. Spinal adjustments are safe and effective techniques used by chiropractors to help relieve sciatica and its painful symptoms. Chiropractors also use other techniques, together with the spinal adjustments, to help relieve sciatic nerve pain, such as ice and/or cold therapy, ultrasound, and a TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) unit. The sciatic nerve is the longest nerve in the human body. Because the sciatic nerve connects the legs and feet to the central nervous system (CNS) any health issues that happen along the length of the sciatic nerve can cause many symptoms associated with sciatica. Sciatica is a collection of symptoms instead of a single health issue. Sciatica is characterized by pain, discomfort, tingling sensations, and numbness. The health issues associated with sciatica are commonly treated by chiropractors and physical therapists. Dr. Alex Jimenez, a doctor of chiropractic in El Paso, TX, commonly helps patients with sciatic nerve pain find the proper health care they deserve. Dr. Alex Jimenez and his office staff have helped many patients find pain relief from their sciatica symptoms through the use of a variety of treatment methods and techniques, also educating them about their health issues and what they can do about them at home. The following video above discusses sciatica or sciatic nerve pain and how Dr. Alex Jimenez has helped patients find sciatica relief through chiropractic care and spinal adjustments as well as other techniques. Sciatica or sciatic nerve pain can be caused by various health issues, such as a herniated disc or disk herniation and a spinal misalignment or subluxation.
[00:00:25] So today I want to speak to you guys about sciatica. What is sciatica? Sciatica is compression of the spinal nerve that runs all the way to the feet or sometimes it stops at the calf. The sciatic nerve is the longest nerve in the body and it is instrumental to the body because it connects the feet to the central nervous system. What are the symptoms of sciatic nerve? It is lower back pain. It is hip pain. It is pain in the buttocks. It is pain that radiates all the way to your feet. Pain that is caused by sitting up, making it difficult for a person to even try to stand from a sitting position. There are a lot of patients that walk here, walk into the clinic and are unaware of what is wrong with them. They’re just like, “You know what? My hip is hurting.” They are unable to walk without any type of help. I’ve seen patients with crutches. I’ve seen patients on wheelchairs and with help from other people. You know, thankfully, they have loved ones that are able to help them and carry them sometimes in here.
[00:01:30] Dr. Jimenez has a great team. We have stated that before. And that is not a lie. He has great techniques to relieve the discomfort, the inflammation, the swelling. Another thing that we do for our patients is we allow them to know how to go home and in due case that they do have pain while at home. We also give them the knowledge, we tell them how to stretch. We give them advice as far as what to do? How do you do stretches before they go to bed? In the morning, when they wake up, they know what to do. So they try to avoid those things that have cost them pain and the discomfort, you know, trying to avoid those things while they come and see us. Dr. Jimenez is very hands. He will see you. He will talk to you. He will treat you like his own family.
The Neurotransmitter Assessment Form (NTAF) shown above can be filled out and presented to Dr. Alex Jimenez.
